POST-CARE : Proper aftercare is essential for a smooth healing process and to ensure the longevity of the procedure.
💡 What is Second Skin?
Second Skin is a breathable, waterproof bandage that protects your tattoo while it heals. It keeps out bacteria and helps your skin heal faster with less scabbing.
🛁 When & How to Remove
• Gently peel it off in the shower with warm water after the 3rd day.
• Peel slowly in the direction of hair growth.
• Wash your tattoo with lukewarm water & fragrance-free soap and pat dry with clean paper towels.
• Apply the second set of second skin on clean, dry skin (Just make sure the 2 sets of second skin add up to 6 days total.)
• Apply a thin layer of ointment 2x a day after removal on day 6. (Important: If you notice any signs of irritation, allergic reaction, please or discomfort from the Second Skin bandage, please remove it immediately and don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any concerns.)
🚫 Avoid While Healing
• No scratching or picking
• No tanning or direct sun
• No tight or rubbing clothes on the area
• Sweating
THINGS TO EXPECT DURING HEALING PROCESS
✅ What to Expect
• You might see fluid or ink build up under the film — that’s normal!
• Leave it on for 3–5 days (You’ll wear two pieces over 6 days total.).
• You can shower, but don’t soak it in water (no baths or swimming).
• No lotion or ointment while the film is on.
Day 1 (Tattoo Day)
• Skin may feel sore, tight, or warm—like a mild sunburn.
• You’ll leave with a Second Skin bandage on to protect it.
• Some redness, swelling, and ink/fluid under the bandage is normal.
Days 2–3
• The bandage may still have fluid buildup—this is your body healing.
• If you’re switching to a fresh bandage, do it after 3 days (follow aftercare).
• The area may still be tender but should be calming down.
Days 4–6
• The tattoo might start to feel itchy or slightly dry underneath the bandage.
• Do not scratch or peel anything.
• If you’re wearing the second bandage, leave the second set on until Day 6.
Day 6–7 (Remove Bandage)
• Gently peel off the Second Skin in the shower.
• Pat dry
• Tattoo might look slightly dull, dry, or flaky — totally normal.
• Start applying a thin layer of ointment 2x a day.
Week 2
• Light flaking or peeling may happen.
• Lines might look a little soft or “hazy” — don’t worry, they’ll sharpen.
• Keep moisturizing and avoid sun, picking, and sweating heavily.
Week 3–4
• Tattoo is mostly healed on the surface.
• Lines settle into the skin and color starts to look more natural.
• Continue moisturizing and protect from sun exposure.
1 Month & Beyond
• Tattoo looks healed, but deeper layers are still settling.
• This is when you’ll see the final result.
• If you notice fading or missing spots, this is the time to consider a touch-up.
🧴 Consistent Sun Protection _ Always protect your tattoo from the sun by using SPF 30+ sunscreen daily: UV rays break down ink over time, causing fading, blurring, and loss of detail, especially with fine line work. ( Sun damage is the biggest reason tattoos age poorly.)
